It's not always easy to stay in touch while you're on the road. But when you're staying at Ocean Island (or even if you're just dropping by for some tea) we've got your access. Bring your own computer or use ours, and connect with e-mail, travel info, instant messaging, job hunting, games and tons more —we've got you covered. Please note: we can't guarantee that all computers will work with our network due to various technical reasons.

Using Our Computers:
Our public computers are available every hour of every day. Fees are $1.00 for every fifteen minutes of use, and the more you buy the cheaper it is! See the pricing table below. Wireless internet in our café is also free.

Using Your Own Computer:
If you've got a wireless-ready laptop, we can sell you access to our wireless hotspot for cheap! The coverage works in all of our common areas and the rooms. Note: We've had some guests bring in laptops that just won't connect to our network, but most work without any problems. If your laptop is wireless-ready, it will probably work, but we can't guarantee it. If it doesn't work here, you can check out other internet cafes in town. Keep in mind, although you can get free wireless access in these cafes, you'll be obliged to purchase drinks every few hours. So you'll probably save money in the end by getting your wireless here - especially if you're going to be around for a week or more!
If you don't have wireless, don't worry about it! This is one of the few places where you can just plug into our network using your laptop's ethernet port, and our cables! It's fast, stable and doesn't require you to go buy a wireless adaptor at the last minute. We can only connect you with wired access in our lobby and dining room (3 ports), but we can also lend you wireless adaptor cards, if you want to take your laptop upstairs.

Internet access is all high-speed cable 800k/sec, so you can surf without waiting, watch videos and listen to music, whatever you want to do—without sitting around watching the blue "e" spin. The whole building is a wireless hot spot, so there are no areas inside of the building without internet coverage.
Upload photos and data!
Using our computers you can download your photos from your camera (using our card readers or USB ports, and we have cords to fit most cameras in case you forgot yours), upload them to the internet, send them to friends, and burn them to CDs, which we can sell you for $1 each. That'll fit about 400 5-megapixel pictures!
Printing
You can print whatever you want off the web or from documents you bring in, using our awesome laser printers and internet computers. That means you can print off your plane tickets, boarding passes, other travel documents, resumes, directions, maps, and pages from our own Victoria & BC Guide! If you want to print off some photos, we may be able to accommodate you, but it might cost you more than just going to London Drugs, which is about five minutes' walk away.
In-house tech support with our own computer guy!
If you're having problems with your computer, or you just want it fine-tuned, sped up or whatever, Lee is on the case. He does all our tech support work, maintains our crazy computer network and knows how to deal with most computer issues. He's also on the ball when it comes to finding the right parts for your system if you're in need of them, and he knows where to get everything cheap. Lee may need to charge you an hourly rate depending on what's going on, so ask the front desk or phone us about pricing. If there are any other tech support services that you require, speak to us and we may be able to accommodate.
Our computers, burning CDs
Most of our computers come equipped with the latest version of MS Office (including Word, Excel etc), some games (we have Civilizations on one of them for example), Nero CD burning software, and they run Windows XP. We're always adding more stuff, and we can also install other programs if you need them, so let him know of anything special you want to do with our computers, and he'll try to make it happen!
Got MP3 players?
Depending on your MP3 player, you might be able to hook them up to our computer, download music from the internet and add it to your device. iPods are notorious for mating with one particular computer and refusing to work with another one without first erasing everything. Other devices will just plug in and let you do whatever! There's tons of sites out there offering free mp3 downloads, we should say that because our computers run Windows XP, they should be able to connect to whatever music devices you bring in, and you can use iTunes to organize your music.
