Not having to worry about parking in the city is a major bonus. And when you’re staying with us, you can chill out knowing that your ride is safe from the city’s parking enforcement officers, in our parking lot!
Ocean Island’s Parking Lot
We have limited parking available in the lot behind our building at a rate of $10/day (from after 3:00pm until 1:00pm the following day). Parking cannot be reserved in advance. Please only park on the designated parking spots for Ocean Island Inn to avoid towing. See our front desk for details.
If we don’t have any space for you, we can recommend other spots to park around the city, to save you from getting ticketed. Please read below for more options:

Johnson St Parkade
The nearest parkade to Ocean Island Inn is the Johnson St. Parkade. Located a block away, at 750 Johnson St, this is a four story parkade, security patrolled parking lot. We don’t recommend leaving any valuables in your car, but if you do have to leave something in your car we recommend parking here. First hour is free, or $2 every second and third hour. Fourth hour and up is $3 per hour or $16/day (24hrs). Free overnight parking (6:00pm – 8:00am), Sundays and holidays.
There are four more parkades downtown:
- Bastion Square Parkade – 500 Block of Yates St.
- Broughton Stm Parkade – 700 Block of Broughton St.
- Centennial Parkade – 600 Block of Fisgard St.
- Johnson St. Parkade – 700 Johnson St.
- View St. Parkade – 700 Block of View St.
The first hour of parking is always free in any five of these parkades, as well as in the evenings between the hours 6:00pm and 8:00pm and on Sundays and holidays.
Rates for these parkades are $2 every second and third hour. Fourth hour and up is $3 per hour or have $16/day rate. ($17.50/hr for Bastion Square due to demand).
Only parking downtown for a couple hours? In any of these five parkades, you can park for two hours for only $2!
Street Parking & Free Parking
Parking is free at all metered parking spaces on the streets from 6:00pm-9:00am, Monday-Saturday, and all day Sundays and Stat. Holidays. Otherwise you will need to feed the meter 25 cents for every 10 minutes. Be vigilant though; Victoria’s parking attendants are as stealthy and lethal as ninjas!
If you’re sticking around for a bit, we highly recommend downloading the Park Victoria app. Unlike the meters, with your phone you can stop your parking if you get back to your car early and only pay for the minutes you’ve used. You can also add time to your parking if you’re running late, and avoid parking tickets! It’s AMAZING!
There are some 1-2 hour free parking zones on the outskirts of the downtown core. Check out the area near Chinatown (north of Fisgard St. and west of Government St.) or east of Quadra St. and south of Fort St. There are also some 3 hour free parking zones in Beacon Hill Park. There are a few places near town you can park free all-day although these are usually a bit of a walk away.
Check out Tyee Rd. – across the Johnson St. bridge and turn right at the first major intersection; or in the area east of Cook St.
City of Victoria parking tickets can be paid at City Hall (on the corner of Pandora Ave. and Douglas St.) online or by phone at (250) 953-6900 or toll-free 1-888-769-9272. More info: (250) 361-0331. *Please don’t leave any valuables in your car.
Actual vehicles don’t get stolen much in Victoria, but more and more people are having stuff stolen out of their cars. We recommend that you don’t leave anything valuable or important in your vehicle! Store it in our secure storage facility (for free) instead. If you have to leave something in your car, put it in the trunk before you get in your car in the first place, and park the car in a well-lit spot on a busy street.
