Victoria Is Buzzing Right Now — Don't Miss These

Honestly, if you're in town this week, you picked a great one. August in Victoria has a way of throwing everything at you at once — festivals, free events, live music — and this weekend is no exception. Here's what we'd point you toward.

✨ Magic on the Water: Salish Sea Lantern Festival

Saturday, August 23 | Sidney (day trip from Victoria)

This one is genuinely special. The Salish Sea Lantern Festival returns to Sidney this weekend, with the famous Lantern Parade lighting up Saturday evening. Sidney is an easy and scenic day trip — hop a BC Transit bus or catch a ride out — and the parade itself is the kind of thing you'll be talking about for years. Lanterns drifting toward the water as the sun goes down? Yeah. Go.

🎭 Victoria Fringe Fest Kicks Off

August 21–23 (and beyond) | Various venues downtown

Fringe season is here, and if you've never experienced it, welcome to one of the best weeks to be in Victoria. The weekend round-up over at Victoria Buzz has the full lay of the land — short, punchy theatre from local and touring performers, spread across the downtown core. Shows are cheap, the lineups are eclectic, and stumbling into something unexpectedly brilliant is basically the whole point. Check venue listings for what's on each night.

🎬 Free-B Film Festival — Last Two Screenings

August 21–23 | Outdoor locations downtown

You've still got time to catch the final two screenings of the Free-B Film Festival — free outdoor movies under the Victoria sky. Grab a blanket, maybe swing by a food truck on the way, and settle in. It's the kind of low-key summer evening this city does really well. Check the Victoria Buzz weekend guide for screening times and locations.

🎸 The Guess Who — Live at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre

Late August | Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre

This is a big deal for music fans. The Guess Who are hitting the stage in their first tour since reclaiming the rights to their own name — and they're bringing it to Victoria. Classic rock, Canadian icons, and a proper arena show. Check their website for current ticket availability.

🤠 Country Music Festival at Starlight Stadium, Langford

Weekend of August 29–30 | Langford

Already looking ahead to next weekend? The country music festival at Langford's Starlight Stadium is coming fast, headlined by Doc Walker and Aaron Pritchett. Langford is easy to reach by bus, and this is shaping up to be a proper crowd. Check their website for tickets before they sell out.

🏛️ Indigenous Culture in the Spotlight This Weekend

A full program celebrating Indigenous culture is running this weekend — a meaningful and memorable way to spend a few hours. Check the link for what's on and how to get there.

🌿 Luxton Heritage Festival, Langford

This Weekend | Langford

Families especially — take note. The Luxton Heritage Festival is back in Langford, celebrating the heritage of the region with hands-on fun for all ages. It's the kind of local festival that doesn't get enough attention and always delivers. Check their website for full details and hours.

🍽️ Bonus: Victoria's Patio Scene Is Having a Moment

While you're out and about — five Victoria restaurants just landed on a national list of top outdoor dining spots in Canada, with a newcomer making the cut this year. We won't name names (they're better discovered on foot, honestly), but the Inner Harbour, Cook Street Village and Chinatown are all great places to start hunting for a patio table on a sunny afternoon.

Not sure how to get to any of these, or want to know about guest discounts on whale watching with our partners at Orca Spirit Adventures? Swing by the Ocean Island front desk — we're happy to help you figure out the best way to get there, what to combine, and how to make the most of your time in Victoria. 🙂
