🥗 Greek Fest — Two Weekends of Food, Music & Culture
Late August into September
Greek Fest is back for two weekends, and it delivers every time: traditional food, live music, dancing, and a genuinely warm atmosphere. It's the kind of event where you show up for the souvlaki and end up staying two hours longer than planned.
First weekend runs August 28–30, with a second weekend to follow in September — so if you're arriving just after Labour Day, you haven't missed it.
🌿 Abkhazi Garden Turns 80 — A Month of Special Events
Throughout August & into September
Abkhazi Garden is one of Victoria's genuine hidden gems — a beautifully designed heritage garden with a story behind it that's almost too romantic to be real. This year it's celebrating 80 years, and there's a whole month of special programming to mark it, including some free events.
If you haven't been, this is a great excuse. If you have been, you already know you want to go back.

🌿 Victoria Butterfly Gardens — Now Supporting Colombian Partners

Something a little different: Victoria Butterfly Gardens has pledged to send 10% of admission revenue to a butterfly farming partner in Colombia. So your visit becomes a bit more than just wandering through a tropical greenhouse full of free-flying butterflies (which is already a pretty great morning out, if we're being honest).
It's a short drive from downtown — worth combining with a Butchart Gardens day if you're heading north.

🍎 Coming Up in September: Harvest Season Festival & Esquimalt Ribfest

Two reasons September is worth getting excited about:
- A cidery harvest festival out in the Cowichan Valley is celebrating the season with food, cider, live entertainment — and a fundraiser for local animals. A great half-day trip out of the city. Details at VictoriaBuzz — check their site for dates and to plan the drive.
- Esquimalt Ribfest returns with ribs, live music, and serious charity impact — last year they raised an impressive amount for local causes. It's just across the bridge from downtown Victoria and very easy to get to. Full story at VictoriaBuzz
🌊 Don't Forget: Whale Watching Season Is Peaking Right Now
April through October is prime whale watching time on the coast, and right now is as good as it gets. We work with Orca Spirit Adventures — tours run about three hours and leave from two different docks near the Inner Harbour (covered vessel or Zodiac, depending on your tour). Ask at the Ocean Island front desk which departure point your tour uses and about the guest discount rate — it beats anything you'll find published online.
