Sooke Potholes Regional Park

A 55 hectare park open sunrise to sunset with easy to moderate trails. Sooke potholes is Victoria's favorite swimming hole. Picnic or swim at the river, explore forest trails or enjoy the stunning vistas from one of several viewpoints. You may see black-tailed deer, red squirrels or bald eagles riding the breezes overhead.

How to get to Sooke Potholes Regional Park

By public transportation:
Total travelling time: Approximately 2hr
Cost: $5 for a day pass

  • Take the #61 Sooke bus from the corner of Douglas at Pandora. You can ask the bus driver to stop at the nearest stop to the potholes
  • walk from the bus stop to the park. From the bus stop Sooke River Road is to your right, you will need to walk for a good 5km. It's a long walk but it'll be worth it. At the end you will find the Potholes.

By Bike:
Take the Galloping Goose trail from the Johnson street bridge downtown. The trail passes right beside the park. It's a long trip, around 45Km, so make sure you have energy for the ride back. You can also combine the bike ride with the bus ride by taking the bike on the bus.

By Car:
Total travelling time: Approximately 45min

From downtown Victoria, take Douglas street heading north (out of town). Douglas turns into Highway #1 North, follow this for about 10 min. Take exit 10 (Colwood/View Royal exit). You are now on the old island highway. Stay on this, it will eventually turn into Sooke road.
After a while the road opens up with Edward Milne High school and a store to your right, turn right after the store onto Sooke river Road. Follow this to the end (about 5-10min) and you will be a the Potholes.
There is a day-use parking fee. Most dispensers accept coins and credit cards. Remember, if you decide to park outside the parking lot, make sure your tires are not touching the road or you will be towed.

Camping

The Sooke Potholes Campground is located at the North end of the Regional park by the Sooke river. It is owned and operated by the land conservancy of BC. Camping information and bookings are available at: https://www.crd.bc.ca/parks-recreation-culture/parks-trails/find-park-trail/sooke-potholes
