Victoria is known as a touristy town, with lots of fun things to do. Still, that doesn’t mean you have to spend every last penny to have a fun time. In fact, there are many free things you can do in and around downtown Victoria, when you want to get the most of Victoria on a budget! Read down below on how you can have a fun-fueled trip in one of Canada’s most picturesque cities.

1. Walk Victoria’s Inner Harbour

Victoria’s Inner Harbour is the main tourist spot downtown and for a good reason. It’s a buzzing place, with street artists, vendors and a lot more. The Inner Harbour is also where you’ll find the famous Empress Hotel and the Parliament Building. Walk around and take lots of pictures as this area begs you to.

2. Explore Beacon Hill Park

Beacon Hill Park is perfect for a morning jog or a lovely evening stroll. Full of flowers, ponds and pick nick spots, you can also spot a lot of peacocks around the park. Beacon Hill Park is furthermore home to the Children’s Farm where you can pet goats and see many more farm animals. Admission is by donation so no need to break your bank 😉 Follow the trails and you eventually find a beautiful look out point from where you can see the Olympic Mountain Range.

3. Enjoy A Walk Along Dallas Road

Victoria scenic oceanfront walkway follows beautiful Dallas Road and stretches from Clover Point Park all the way to Ogden Point. Grab a coffee and go for an evening stroll alongside the coast. You have access to several beaches where you can relax and watch the waves crashing on the shore. On weekends, you’ll even be treated to the locals flying their colorful kites at Clover Point.

4. Discover Canada’s Oldest Chinatown

Canada’s oldest Chinatown can be found in Victoria! Check out Fan Tan Alley, which is one of the smallest alleyways you’ll ever see. In this eclectic and diverse neighborhood, you can find almost everything: souvenirs, restaurants and all sorts of quirky shops which exist alongside with Chinese traditions and culture.

5. Take a Free Tour of Victoria’s Parliament Building

One of the most (if not the most) important buildings in Victoria is obviously the Parliament Building. You can do self-guided audio tours on weekdays or a free public tour on weekends and holidays. Discover the history of the province and the architectural beauty of this beautiful building without spending a penny!
